The Walt Disney Company went into last night’s Critics Choice Awards with 60 nominations between the film and TV categories, and walked away with seven wins overall in a night dominated by “Barbie,” and “Oppenheimer.”
On the film side, Searchlight Pictures had 13 nominations for its film “Poor Things,” and in the end, ended up with one win in a major category. Disney was completely shut out of the Best Animated Feature even though both Pixar’s “Elemental” and Walt Disney Pictures’ “Wish” were nominated.
Disney faired better in the TV categories with its red-hot FX series “The Bear” nabbing four wins in the four categories it was nominated in, along with one award going to Hulu series “Only Murders In the Building.” The Hulu film “Quiz Lady” also won an award.
Harrison Ford (“Star Wars,” “Indiana Jones”) accepted the well-deserved Career Achievement Award during the evening, introduced by his “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” director James Mangold.
Congratulations to the winners…entertainment critics are a tough crowd.
