Disney and Lucasfilm have announced that the next Star Wars story to head to the big screen will be “The Mandalorian & Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau, and here’s what you need to know.
The Details
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” will take everyone’s favorite characters from the Disney+ series and give them a big adventure in theaters.
The exact story isn’t known, but Lucasfilm says it will be directed by Jon Favreau, who co-created the series, and produced by Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, and Dave Filoni.
“The Mandalorian & Grogu” will go into production in 2024.
“I have loved telling stories set in the rich world that George Lucas created,” said Favreau. “The prospect of bringing the Mandalorian and his apprentice Grogu to the big screen is extremely exciting.”
Last year, during “Star Wars Celebration Europe,” three new Star Wars movies were announced to be in the works, but this film is apparently a fourth film, which is a bonus for Star Wars fans.
The previously announced films will include a film starring the final trilogy’s character of Rey (Daisy Ridley) directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy; a film directed by Dave Filoni that reportedly will unite characters in “The Mandalorian” and “Ahsoka;” and a third film directed by James Mangold with an unknown plot.
“Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni have ushered into Star Wars two new and beloved characters, and this new story is a perfect fit for the big screen,” added Kathleen Kennedy, president of Lucasfilm.
“The Mandalorian” series completed its third season in 2023, with no word on if it would get a fourth, so its entirely possible the end of that season will be the jumping off point for this new movie.
