If you have plans to particpate in the runDisney Walt Disney World Half-Marathon scheduled for tomorrow (January 6), the race course has been modified due to the severe weather that is forecast for the area.
The Details
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Central Florida for the early morning hours on Saturday, January 6, so runDisney officials have made some modifications to the 13.1 Walt Disney World Half Marathon race.
First, the start time has been moved up earlier to 4:45am, with the goal to have everyone off the course by 8am, due to expected lightning in the area after 9am.
runDisney says this earlier race start time will not affect Start Group Open/Close times or pre-Race Transportation.
The course map has also been cut almost in half, from 13.1 miles to just over 7. The course will now stick to EPCOT and the surrounding area.
Participants registered for Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge, the Dopey Challenge, as well as the runDisney Coast to Coast Race Challenge who complete the shortened course on pace will still be eligible for their challenge medals.
Expo hours for the runDisney Health and Fitness Expo will not be affected, and the Expo will remain open from 11am to 3pm.
