Freeform has canceled two of its scripted series, “Cruel Summer” and “Good Trouble,” though the latter still has episodes to air.

The Details

“Cruel Summer” was cancelled after two seasons on Freeform, and “Good Trouble” will end with the second half of its upcoming fifth season.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, which first reported the news, a combination of filming costs and low ratings contributed to the cancellations of both shows.

While the “Cruel Summer” stories are ended, “Good Trouble” will reportedly be given the opportunity to film some additional scenes for a supersized series finale episode to properly wrap up the series. Its Season 5B premieres on January 2.

The two series were Freeform’s last remaining scripted originals following the November 2023 cancellation of animated comedy “Praise Petey,” and the announcement that the back half of the final season “grown-ish” will air in 2024.

Cruel Summer

“Cruel Summer” is a teen drama mystery thriller anthology television series. Each season follows a new cast of characters who deal with traumatic events over several timelines, and how those events impact their lives.

The second season of “Cruel Summer” was set in an idyllic waterfront town in the Pacific Northwest, and followed the rise and fall of an intense teenage friendship.

Approaching the story from three different timelines surrounding Y2K, the season twisted and turned as it tracked the early friendship between Megan, Isabella, and Megan’s best friend Luke, the love triangle that blossomed, and the mystery that would impact all of their lives going forward.

The series starred Sadie Stanley, Lexi Underwood, Griffin Gluck, KaDee Strickland, Lisa Yamada and Sean Blakemore. Paul Adelstein and Braeden De La Garza recurred.

Both seasons are still available to watch on Hulu.

The series stars Cierra Ramirez, Tommy Martinez, Emma Hunton, Sherry Cola, Zuri Adele, Josh Pence, Bryan Craig, Maia Mitchell, and Booboo Stewart.

All seasons are still available to watch on Hulu.
