Due in part to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, and in part to Iger’s new Disney+ strategy of less product, Marvel Studios has changed up its upcoming release schedule of series.
The New Dates
“Loki” Season 2 is the only series sticking to its current premiere date of October 6. The excitement is big from the fans, who made gave the season trailer the biggest debut of any Disney+ series.
The rest of the planned Marvel series, though, have all been pushed.
The second season of the animated series “What If…?” will debut over the 2023 holidays. Jeffrey Wright returns as the voice of alien narrator The Watcher as the series takes an alternate take on the Marvel superhero tales we know all too well.
The “Hawkeye” spinoff, “Echo,” had been expected to premiere in Summer 2023, then November 2023, but now has a tentative date sometime in January 2024.
Another animated series, “X-Men ’97,” has also been pushed from fall 2023 to “early in 2024.” The series was first announced at D23 Expo 2022.
Finally, the “WandaVision” spinoff featuring Agatha Harkness not only has a new time frame, but another new title, as well.
The series is now called “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries,” replacing the previous title “Agatha: Coven of Chaos,” which in turn replaced the original title “Agatha: House of Harkness.”
And if there are no further name changes, “Agatha: Darkhold Diaries” will now air in Fall 2024, sometime before Halloween.
No Longer Scheduled
In addition to the date changes (and name change), four previously announced Marvel Studios series are no longer on the schedule – at least for now.
“Daredevil: Born Again” (originally scheduled for spring 2024), “Ironheart” (fall 2023; character already introduced in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”), “Wonder Man” (announced but not dated), and the untitled, undated “Wandavision” spinoff starring Vision are all currently waiting new dates on Disney+.
Hopefully there will be news on one or more of these series during next weekend’s Destination D23 event at Walt Disney World.
