Disney+ has released a new trailer for Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: Ahsoka,” and they also made an announcement about the series’ debut next month.

The Debut

It was announced earlier this summer that the new “Star Wars: Ahsoka” series would debut on Disney+ on August 23, 2023.

Disney+ has now confirmed that the series will debut with two episodes, kicking off with twice the action.

The Trailer

The new trailer starts with Sith Lord Baylan (Ray Stevenson) intoning “War is inevitable. One must destroy…in order to create.” During this, clips of him and his acolyte Shin Hati (Ivanna Sakhno) are battling their way through a rebel base as Baylan states, “We are no Jedi.”

The trailer then takes us into the overall story, as former Jedi Ahsoka (Rosario Dawson) works to track down Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen), who is Heir to the Empire.

Unfortunately, it appears Baylan and his acolyte are also seeking Thrawn, but Ahsoka has friends and a former padawan on her side.

“Sometimes we have to do what’s right,” says Ahsoka, “regardless of our personal feelings.”

The Featurette

Lucasfilm also released a featurette that documents the “Journey to Ahsoka,” taking fans from the first rumblings of the series through to now, including Dawson transforming into the character.

The Poster

New poster art depicting Ahsoka with her lightsaber has also been released:

The Series

“Star Wars: Ahsoka” is set in roughly the same time frame after the fall of the Empire as “The Mandalorian.”

The character will be joined by her “Star Wars: Rebels” crew: Sabine Wren (Natasha Liu Bordizzo), Hera Syndulla (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi), and everyone’s favorite grumpy droid, Chopper.

Also appearing in the series are Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly), Sith Lord adversary Baylan Skoll (Stevenson, who sadly passed after filming), his acolyte Shin Hati (Sakhno), Grand Admiral Thrawn (Mikkelsen), and the ancient droid Huyang (voiced by David Tennant).

The series is written by Dave Filoni, who executive produces alongside Jon Favreau, Kathleen Kennedy, Colin Wilson, and Carrie Beck. Karen Gilchrist serves as a co-executive producer.

The list of directors for the eight episode first season includes Dave Filoni, Steph Green (“Watchmen”), Peter Ramsey (“Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse,” “The Mandalorian”), Jennifer Getzinger (“Westworld,” “Jessica Jones”), Geeta Patel (“House of the Dragon”) and Rick Famuyiwa (“The Mandalorian”).
