Disney-owned ABC is in the process of deciding on the shows that will air in the 2023-2024 schedule, and has unfortunately cancelled three of its scripted dramas.

The Shows

The three shows included two freshman dramas, and one that has been cancelled after its third season.

Two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank starred in the new drama “Alaska Daily,” which follows fiercely talented and award-winning investigative journalist Eileen Fitzgerald (Swank) who leaves her high-profile New York life behind after a fall from grace to join a daily metro newspaper in Anchorage on a journey to find both personal and professional redemption.

It wrapped up its 11-episode first season on March 30, 2023.

The other new drama was “The Company You Keep,” starring Milo Ventimiglia as a con man romantically entangled with a CIA agent played by Catherine Haena Kim.

William Fichtner, Tim Chiou, Freda Foh Shen, James Saito, Sarah Wayne Callies, Felisha Terrell, and Polly Draper also starred in this steamy crime thriller that aired its last episode on May 7, 2023.

Finally ABC has waved goodbye to “Big Sky” which aired its season three finale on January 18, 2023.

Despite guest starring turns from Reba McEntire and Jensen Ackles, the David E. Kelley crime thriller starring Kylie Bunbury and Katheryn Winnick ranked next-to-last in viewers for its last season.

Decisions Still to Be Made

ABC still has several series that have not been decided on for renewals.

The only drama series at the network whose fate has not been decided yet is “The Rookie: Feds,” a first-season spin-off of the network’s popular series “The Rookie,” which has already been renewed.

As for the comedies, “The Conners” will most likely get a renewal, but for “Home Economics,” which ended its third season on January 18, and “Not Dead Yet,” which ended season one on May 3, it could go either way.

Season two of “The Wonder Years” will premiere Summer 2023, so a season 3 renewal is too early to tell.

Already Renewed

As for the other scripted series on ABC, here are the ones that are getting another season:

  • Abbott Elementary: Renewed for Season 3
  • The Good Doctor: Renewed for Season 7
  • Grey’s Anatomy: Renewed for Season 20
  • The Rookie: Renewed for Season 6
  • Station 19: Renewed for Season 7
  • Will Trent: Renewed for Season 2

  1. Why cancel the Big Sky it was such an amazing show! The Daily Alaska was a awesome show that wasn’t given a fair shake as it aired for a month then off for 4 months then back how can you keep involved in a show with a break like that? Big Sky when Jensen Ackles was brought in it gave it a huge bump. Bring back Big Sky!
