Bono & The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman

U2 fans are in for a treat this St. Patrick’s Day as Disney+ will debut “Bono & The Edge: A Sort Of Homecoming, With Dave Letterman” on March 17, 2023.

The Details

Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Morgan Neville captures former talk show host Dave Letterman on his first visit to Dublin to hang out with Bono and The Edge in their hometown, experience Dublin, and join the two U2 musicians for a concert performance unlike any they’ve done before.

As well as the concert performance itself, the docu-special will focus on the extraordinary relationship between Bono and The Edge and how it has developed across 45-plus years of close friendship into one of the most remarkable songwriting partnerships in the history of rock ‘n’ roll.

Disney Branded Television President Ayo Davis made the announcement during the TCA Winter 2023 press event, saying, “Bono and The Edge are the force behind one of the most prolific and influential acts in the history of rock and roll, and we are honored to bring this truly intimate look at their beginnings, friendship, and creative process to a global audience on Disney+.”

David Letterman in Dublin

Letterman, who accepted an invitation from the two U2 bandmates to join them in Dublin for his first-ever visit to Ireland, has a 25-year relationship with U2 but had previously only spent time with the Bono and The Edge in the U.S.

This special will also document Dublin through Letterman’s eyes as he experiences Bono and The Edge’s home city for the first time, as well as being their honored guest at the intimate concert performance at a local landmark, the former Ambassador Cinema building at the top of O’Connell Street on Dublin’s Northside.

The Disney+ special is produced by Academy- and Emmy Award-Winning Brian Grazer and Ron Howard’s Imagine Documentaries, Academy Award Winning Filmmaker Morgan Neville, and Dave Letterman’s Worldwide Pants, in partnership with Disney Branded Television.

New Album

The special will coincide with the release of U2’s highly anticipated next album “Songs Of Surrender,” a collection of 40 songs from across the band’s catalog, re-recorded and reimagined, curated and produced by The Edge.

It sees the band revisit some of the most celebrated songs of their 40-plus year career, including “With Or Without You,” “One,” “Beautiful Day,” “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” and “Invisible,” for a musical reimagining resulting in a completely new recording of each track, including arrangements and, in some cases, new lyrics.

It will also be released March 17, 2023, and the band has made available a first track from the album, the anthemic “Pride (In The Name Of Love),” to listen to from a choice of sources.

  1. Shame on Bono, The Edge, U-2 & Letterman for allowing Disney to control who views their work. Disney is not exactly any of theirs’s target audience. Everyone knows that Disney never gives up the rights to air anything. Only Disney subscribers will see this work for a long, long time.
