Disney Parks Implements Variable Pricing for Genie+ at Disneyland and Walt Disney World

Disney is once again shaking up its Genie+ service by switching to variable pricing at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.

What is Variable Pricing?

Since Genie+ launched last fall, the service cost a set price of $15 at Walt Disney World and $20 at Disneyland. This is per person, per day.

Since Walt Disney World no longer allows pre-arrival purchase of Genie+, the daily purchase price will vary by day and demand, for an average of $15 to $25 per person per day.

Individual Lightning Lanes at Walt Disney World will also switch to variable pricing.

Disney says Walt Disney World guests should check the My Disney Experience app daily during their stay for the Genie+ and Individual Lighting Lane prices that day.

There are no discounts for passholders or DVC.

At Disneyland, which does allow pre-arrival Genie+ purchase, the advance purchase price has increased from $20 per person per day to $25 per person per day.

The variable pricing kicks in for those who purchase the service the day of, and that price will vary by day and demand.

Magic Key holders will continue to receive their new 20% off both pre-arrival & same-day purchases.

When Does Variable Pricing Start?

Not one for giving much warning, Disney is implementing this new Genie+ pricing for both parks starting today, October 11, 2022.

Also effective today, “WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure” at Disneyland is switching to Individual Lightning Lane to part of the attractions included in Genie+.

It’s important to note that the Disney Genie service remains free for park Guests to use plan their park days. It’s only the Genie+ and Individual Lighting lanes that this change affects.

Avoid The Stress

All of these changes can make the Genie+ experience even more confusing and stressful, something Disney fans seemed to agree upon during an informal online survey:

  1. I love Disney, but their extra $$$$$$ on everything is getting crazy! People aren’t going to be able to afford going there pretty soon 😢
