Restrictions are being loosened in China again, and word comes that Shanghai Disney will partially reopen to guests on June 16, 2022.
At this time, the resort’s theme park, Shanghai Disneyland, and the resort’s Toy Story Hotel, will continue to remain temporarily closed until further notice.
What is opening is Disneytown, the shopping, dining and entertainment district, and the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel.
Disneytown
The reopening of Disneytown will provide guests with the perfect destination to experience Disney with the fresh outdoor air, allowing them to reunite with families and friends
During the initial reopening stage, each venue will operate with limited capacity as well as select offerings and services.
Upon reopening, many of the shopping, dining, and recreational experiences in Disneytown will be available to guests.
They will, however, be operating with limited capacities in accordance with government guidelines as well as reduced hours of operation.
Participating restaurants will offer adjusted menus featuring “grab-and-go” items, instead of table service or made-to-order items.
Wishing Star Park, the World of Disney Store, and Blue Sky Boulevard resumed operations on June 10.
The Disneytown Parking Lot will also resume operations on June 16.
Shanghai Disneyland Hotel
Reservations for the Shanghai Disneyland Hotel can be made now through the Shanghai Disney Resort official website and app, as well as via Weixin/WeChat account, the Resort Reservation Center, and the resort’s official travel partners’ channels.
All room types at Shanghai Disneyland Hotel will be available for reservations, subject to availability.
Most of the hotel’s dining experiences, including Lumière’s Kitchen and Aurora, will reopen at the same time.
Hotel restaurants will be available for hotel guests only, subject to pandemic control measures and advanced reservation
Select hotel facilities, such as the King Triton Pool and the onsite fitness center, will remain temporarily closed until further notice.
From June 14 to July 12, 2022, Shanghai Disneyland Annual Pass holders will be able to enjoy a discounted room rate for a Deluxe Garden View room for stays June 16 to July 13, 2022.
During this reopening period, Shanghai Disney Resort will continue its enhanced health and safety measures, in accordance with the latest government regulations and guidance.
The Pandemic Closure
China has a zero-tolerance policy for COVID, which has resulted in Shanghai Disney closing several times in the last few years.
The resort first closed for the pandemic January 26, 2020, and reopened on May 11 the same year.
However a Halloween 2021 scare, plus rising COVID rates in China, led to Shanghai Disney closing again on March 21, 2022, and it has remained closed until now.
Sixth Anniversary
Shanghai Disney opened to the public on June 16, 2016, which means this partial reopening falls on the sixth anniversary of its original opening.
But don’t think Disney will just let it pass by. The celebration will just be postponed until everything is fully open.
When we do hear of further openings, especially Shanghai Disneyland, we’ll let you know. It’s good to see all of the resorts will be open again, but it will be even better when Shanghai is fully open.
