Yesterday saw a flurry of news coming out of the big “Star Wars Celebration” convention in Anaheim, and among all the Star Wars reveals, was some news on the upcoming “Indiana Jones” film.
First, legendary composer John Williams came out to conduct a live performance of the “Obi-Wan Kenobi” series theme. That segued into another of Williams’ famous compositions, the theme for “Raiders of the Lost Ark.”
As the theme played, actor Harrison Ford came out on stage to thunderous applause.
He first wished Williams a happy birthday, quipping, “”I told John on another occasion when we had a chance to be together that that music follows me everywhere I go,” said Ford. “And you know what? I’m happy about it. That music was playing on the speakers of the operating room when I had my last colonoscopy. I passed.”
Ford then talked about the new “Indiana Jones” movie, showing the audience a first image from it:
“We have almost completed the next Indiana Jones film, featuring the music of John Williams,” Ford told the audience. “And I had a wonderful experience working with [director] James Mangold, with [producers] Kathy [Kennedy] and Frank [Marshall] again. I’m really proud of the movie that we made. So, I’ll be seeing you around campus.”
The as-yet-untitled fifth “Indiana Jones” film, co-written by Mangold, Jez Butterworth and John-Henry Butterworth, is slated to arrive in theaters June 30, 2023.
It also stars Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Mads Mikkelsen, Thomas Kretschmann, Boyd Holbrook, Shaunette Renée Wilson and Antonio Banderas.
