After four months of closure, Hong Kong Disneyland welcomed guests back to the park on Thursday, April 21, 2022.
To celebrate, a parade was held featuring Hong Kong Disneyland Resort’s Managing Director, Michael Moriarty, the Hong Kong Disneyland Resort Ambassadors, and Disney characters including Mickey and Minnie, and the Disney Princesses.
Disney Parks put together this quick recap of the festivities:

The Ambassadors also posted this lovely video of Cast Members getting the park ready to reopen:
In addition to the opening celebration, Hong Kong Disneyland has new photo ops for guests to enjoy, along with new food like Mickey Mouse donuts. And of course plenty of merchandise like these cute create-your-own headbands, which the American parks need to have.
“#TheMagicIsNow! It’s time to reunite and feel the magic once again. With the reopening today, we have prepared an array of surprises for our guests to make sure each celebration creates lasting precious memories,” said Moriarty.
Hong Kong Disneyland closed due to Omicron on January 6, 2022, and the park was expected to reopen on January 20. Unfortunately the increase in cases kept the park closed much longer than intended.
While closed, the resort partnered with local non-profit organizations to support more than 2,000 underserved families during this difficult time.
With the announcement of their reopening, Hong Kong Disneyland also gave out a total of 10,000 park admission tickets to seven local nonprofits.
Upon reopening, the resort will continue with its health and safety measures including temperature screening, the wearing of face masks, social distancing, and increased cleaning and sanitization with reference to the latest regulations and guidance from the government and health authorities.
Hong Kong Disneyland asks for guests’ kind understanding and compliance with safety requirements such as wearing a mask at all times except when enjoying food and beverage at a table, and complying with the the “Vaccine Pass” requirements. Guests should carry their COVID-19 vaccination record at all times, or Medical Exemption Certificate, and present it to cast members for inspection as required.
The reopening of Hong Kong Disneyland means only Shanghai Disney Resort is still closed, but we’re keeping a close eye on them announcing a reopen date.
Congratulations to Hong Kong Disneyland and its Cast Members on being open once again!
