In a move that should make fans of the “National Treasure” movies happy, Disney+ has announced actor Justin Bartha has joined the cast of the upcoming series based on the films.
Bartha will be reprising his role of Riley Poole, a computer whiz who helped Nicolas Cage’s character Benjamin Franklin Gates in his search for historical items.
The Disney+ series follows Jess (Lisette Alexis), a young, brilliant and resourceful DREAMer who embarks on the adventure of a lifetime to uncover the truth about her family’s mysterious past and save a lost Pan-American treasure.
Also recently cast, Catherine Zeta-Jones will play Billie, a “badass billionaire,” black-market antiquities expert, and treasure hunter who lives by her own code, and is also after the treasure.
The series will also feature Zuri Reed, Jordan Rodrigues, Antonio Cipriano, and Jake Austin Walker as Jess’ friends, along with Lyndon Smith, as FBI Agent Ross who assists in the quest.
Jerry Bruckheimer, Cormac and Marianne Wibberley, Jonathan Littman, and KristieAnne Reed will executive produce the series alongside Rick Muirragui, who also serves as a writer. Jon Turteltaub is also an executive producer, plus Mira Nair is directing and executive producing this project from Disney Branded Television’s for Disney+ produced by ABC Signature.
Production on the series is currently underway in Baton Rouge, LA, for a 2023 series debut.
