Walt Disney World may be in the middle of its 50th Anniversary, but sister park Disneyland Paris kicks off its 30th Anniversary celebrations tomorrow, May 6, 2022.
In a statement they write: “A new era is announced from March 6, 2022. An era placed under the sign of transformation, limitless creativity and new technologies, for the benefit of an ever more immersive and unforgettable visitor experience. To take this historic step, Disneyland Paris, more resplendent than ever, will celebrate its bright future, where guests will dream bigger and laugh harder.”
Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and their friends (even Clarice!) will be dressed in new “iridescent” (unlike WDW’s EAR-idescent material) costumes created for the 30th anniversary.
More than 2,000 lines of rhinestone were sewn, nearly 700 meters of fabrics were printed, and over 190 jewels were used to create these dazzling outfits.
Here’s a quick look:
Main places such as the Gazebo, Main Street Station, and Disney Village will be transformed as well in an “iridescent” theme, featuring sparkling blue and purple hues with lighting effects, neon lights and backlit kinetic mobiles.
So many new shows and attractions are also planned for the 30th Anniversary of Disneyland Paris.
An all-new daytime show called “Dream…and Shine Brighter!” will take place in front of newly reopened Sleeping Beauty Castle, which is now more beautiful than ever following its 12-month refurbishment. Underscored by a unique soundtrack, and featuring more than 30 Disney characters and dancers, this captivating show celebrates the power of laughter, passion, and dreams. It will be performed several times daily.
Here’s a look at this new show:
Speaking of the Castle, a new enchanted promenade featuring 30 art pieces will be installed. Celebrating nature and embodying the diversity of Disney and Pixar characters, the “Gardens of Wonder” will come to life in various forms inspired by windmills for children, the world of Salvador Dali, and more.
Here’s a look at the creation of this new metallic art installation:
At night, a new pre-show called “Disney D-Light” will light up the sky before the start of “Disney Illuminations.” It will combine video projections, illuminated water jets, lighting effects, mist, famous Disney songs, and drone choreographies to transform the Castle.
Created for the 30th anniversary by a symphony orchestra at the famous Abbey Road Studios in London, the new theme song “Un monde qui s’illumine” will play as 200 synchronized drones take over the sky, forming a sparkling figure “30” right above Sleeping Beauty Castle.
Here is a behind-the-scenes peek at this new nighttime show:
Other shows are returning with a fresh new look, like “The Lion King: Rhythms of the Pride Lands,” which reopened last fall.
And of course, it’s not a celebration without delicious foods and beverages!
As part of this celebration, all-new vegetarian friendly options will be available including a vegan panini, a recipe specially for the 30th Anniversary, a new Veggie Burger from En Coulisse, and a salted mashed potato waffle. Even Casey’s Corner has a new veggie hot dog.
Marvelous new desserts are on their way to table-service restaurants, such as Le Bouquet final, a white chocolate and strawberry cake served under a dome, and the 30th-Anniversary-themed delicious macaron assortment included in all-you-can-eat buffets.
It’s not a party without party favors to take home, and Disneyland Paris teams have designed more than 350 new and exclusive items! From limited-edition collectibles to key chains, anniversary-themed plush, iconic ear headbands, and clothing, these offerings will debut over the course of the celebration.
Speaking of collectibles, if you’re a fan of the Stella McCartney designed Minnie Mouse 30th Anniversary pant suit, as part of International Women’s Rights Day, March 8, 2022, Stella McCartney will market a unique Minnie Mouse t-shirt exclusively available online and in Stella stores.
“I wanted Minnie to wear her very first pantsuit at Disneyland Paris, so I designed one of my signature costumes, a blue tuxedo, using responsibly sourced fabrics. This new take on her signature polka dot makes Minnie Mouse a true symbol of progress for a new generation. She’ll be wearing it in honor of Women’s History Month, March 2022. Can’t wait for you to see this new look at Walt Disney Studios Park!” said McCartney in a press release.
Plus, starting spring 2022, a limited-edition product line inspired by the cult movie Fantasia will be also launched by Stella McCartney.
All this is just the tip of the list of surprises and openings planned for the 30th Anniversary.
Upcoming highlights of the celebration will include the opening of the Avengers Campus this summer, the first of three new themed areas coming to Walt Disney Studios Park.
There is just so much fun for guests to experience in the next year of the 30th Anniversary! Tomorrow we’ll take a look at the history of Disneyland Paris, and I’ll be reporting on the first day of the celebration, too.
