Disney+ has given a 10-episode series order to a new “Goosebumps” live-action series based on the books by author R. L. Stine.
The series will follow a group of five high schoolers who accidentally unleash supernatural forces upon their town. They must all learn to work together, despite their differences, to defeat the monsters and save everyone.
No casting news has been made, but Nick Stoller and Rob Letterman will serve as writers and executive producers on the show, with Letterman directing the first episode.
First published in 1992, the Scholastic-published title is one of the best-selling book series of all time, with more than 200 “Goosebumps” books in total, including spin-offs.
The books were originally made into an anthology TV series that ran from 1996 to 1998, then into two movies starring Jack Black as a fictional version of R. L. Stine that were released in 2015 and 2018. Letterman directed the first film.
“Goosebumps” will actually be the second R.L. Stine series that Disney+ has aired. The streamer previously ordered a series adaptation of Stine’s “Just Beyond” graphic novels, which debuted its first season in October 2021.
The new series was announced via social media with a teaser:
