Disney+ Releases Casting Details for Marvel’s Werewolf Halloween Special Coming in 2022

Marvel's Werewolf at Night

Disney+ released details that it is partnering with Marvel for a 2022 Halloween special based on the Marvel character Werewolf by Night.

Actor Gael Garcia Bernal (“The Motorcycle Diaries”) is being considered for the title character, also known as Jack Russell, who is capable of transforming into a werewolf while retaining human intellects.

Joining him is reportedly Laura Donnelly (“The Nevers”), whose character hasn’t been announced, but she could be playing Nina Price, who becomes Vampire by Night.

In the comics, Price is the niece of Russell, and a vampire/werewolf hybrid. She already carried the lycan gene, and was changed further after being bitten by a vampire.

The special is due to begin production in coming months, but no details as to if this is a movie or a limited series, or what the exact air date is.

The Werewolf by Night character originally appeared in Marvel Spotlight #2 (February 1972) and was based on an idea by Roy Thomas. The name was suggested by Marvel/Disney legend Stan Lee.

Interestingly, the “Werewolf by Night” issue #32 in August 1975 contained the first appearance of the Marvel character of Moon Knight, who will be played by Oscar Issac in the upcoming Disney+ series that will debut March 30, 2022.

Could this upcoming “Werewolf by Night” Halloween special be tied into that new series as a one-off episode? It’s entirely possible.

As soon as we find out more details, we’ll let you know.
