Nightmare Alley

Searchlight Pictures release “Nightmare Alley” is now available to view on Hulu starting today (February 1, 2022).

The Guillermo del Toro directed film stars Bradley Cooper, Cate Blanchett, Toni Collette, David Strathairn, Rooney Mara, and Richard Jenkins, and was released in theaters in the U.S. on December 17, 2021 (where it got crushed at the box office by “Spider-Man: No Way Home“).

In the film, Cooper plays charismatic, but down-on-his-luck, Stanton Carlisle, who endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (Strathairn) at a traveling carnival.

He crafts a golden ticket to success, using his newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society, until he sees what he thinks will be a really big score.

With the virtuous Molly (Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon (Jenkins) with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Blanchett), who just might be his most formidable opponent yet.

The film is based on the 1946 novel of the same name by William Lindsay Gresham, which was first adapted into a movie in 1947.

This version of “Nightmare Alley” has been well-liked by both critics and fans, and is up for several awards this spring, including the SAG Awards, and the Critic’s Choice Awards.

Searchlight Pictures is the independent film arm of 20th Century Studios, which Disney acquired when it purchased the Fox assets. Due to licensing agreements in the purchase, “Nightmare Alley” will also be available starting today on HBOMax.
