Via its social media, Walt Disney World has announced a new restaurant will be coming to Disney’s Contemporary Resort called Steakhouse 71.
Disney Parks describes it a “casual-themed dining concept” and posted this photo of a luscious piece of layered chocolate cake (odd since this will be a steakhouse).
The name Steakhouse 71 is a nod to the opening year of Walt Disney World, and the resort says the restaurant “will be open in time for the celebration” – which is October 1.
It will be located just off the lobby, taking over the space that once held The Wave…of American Flavors restaurant. The Wave closed for business last month (July 2021). It originally opened at Disney’s Contemporary Resort in 2008.
Coincidentally, the Steakhouse 55 restaurant at the Disneyland Hotel at Disneyland has permanently closed. If Disney Parks uses that restaurant as a template for Steakhouse 71, then the new restaurant will offer breakfast and dinner menus. But nothing has been confirmed as of yet.
I personally will miss The Wave’s breakfast buffet, but am intrigued at what the new menu(s) will offer. Plus I’m curious how they will re-theme the layout/decor.
Will you miss The Wave…of American Flavors restaurant? Are you looking forward to a new steakhouse at Walt Disney World? Let us know in the comments.
Not only will we miss The Wave, but the other dining options in the Contemporary and Bay Lake are either below par or very expensive. I hope Steakhouse 71 provides all that The Wave did.
