The update we’ve been waiting was just made by Disney Parks news. Both Disneyland and Walt Disney World resorts will remain closed until further noticed amidst concerns related to the Coronavirus / COVID-19.
The announcement also says that both resorts will continue to pay their employees through April 18.
For Disneyland, all of California is currently under a stay-at-home order, requiring all non-essential businesses to stay closed until the order is lifted. Disneyland will not be able to welcome back non-essential cast members to begin any retaining and safety checks required to reopen the theme parks, resorts, restaurants, stores and transportation that make up the resort.
At Walt Disney World, while the Florida Governor has been slow to act, both Orange County and Osceola County have announced stay at home orders until at least April 9. That means any non-essential cast members won’t be able to report for duty until at least that date.
But very few are expecting the Coronavirus pandemic to be under control by early April and the CDC has said at least May 10th and with neighboring counties still not requiring residents to stay at home and stop the spread of the virus, an early end to the pandemic does not look likely.
The full text of the notice is here:
This is an unprecedented time and we’re very sad to hear that the closure will continue ‘until further notice’ but we’re also not surprised giving the need for everyone to maintain strict physical distancing to contain the spread of the virus.
Update 3/28 – Walt Disney World no longer accepting new reservations before June 1, 2020.
Yesterday we wrote how the management of Disney’s Parks were likely waiting to make any announcement to its cast members until after they knew that the $2 trillion Rescue Package would make it through congress and exactly what the bill contained.
Congress passed the bill this afternoon and the President says he will sign it. Disney’s official announcement came less than 2 hours later.
It’s unknown how long it will be until we’re able to go and visit the Fab Five at our favorite Disney theme parks, but the sooner everyone starts practicing strict physical distancing and the government starts doing hardcore testing and tracking, the sooner this crisis will be contained.
This is a developing story. We will update as we learn more.
It’s a bummer, but completely needed to to get this under control! I don’t think they’re going to open at all in the month of April. I think we’re looking at a May opening ?

So what happens cause ours is booked last week of may ?
You can choose to keep it there for now, then when the date get closer cancel or move it (if it’s a Disney package). I’d talk to your travel agent for advice.
