More details emerge from first day of filming on Star Wars live-action streaming series — The Mandalorian

As we mentioned yesterday, production on the first Star Wars live-action streaming series has begun. With Jon Favreau in the executive producer role, aka the showrunner, The Mandalorian will follow a lone gunfighter from the planet Mandalore in their adventures through the outer reaches of the galaxy, far from the authority of the New Republic.

We’re learning new details today. In addition to our first image from the set of the production, we have confirmed that Dave Filoni will direct the first episode. Additional directors including Deborah Chow (Jessica Jones), Rick Famuyiwa (Dope), Bryce Dallas Howard (Solemates), and Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) will be brought on to direct other episodes.

The image is immediately identifiable as Star Wars. From the Mandalorian armor, similar to Boba Fett, to the dessert planet city set behind the figure. A blaster, a rifle, armor pocketed with blaster marks and the iconic Mandalorian armor. In the background appears to be a market and multiple people.

Yes, this image is blowing up the internet tonight. Which should strike fear into the hearts of Netflix and Warner Bros. executives. Disney has the brands (Star Wars, Marvel, Pixar, even Indiana Jones) that will get people excited about their new streaming service with just one image. This is why Bob Iger is paid the big bucks people.
