Closing: Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre at Disney’s Contemporary Resort

Sammy Duvall’s Watersports Centre has been providing visitors to Walt Disney World the thrill of water-skiing, parasailing, and other adventures for around 20 years out of the marina at Disney’s Contemporary Resort. Giving customers just a few days notice, the company said it will be closing for good on Friday, August 31st.

In a post on their Instagram page, the company said, “To all our fans and families who have enjoyed a day on the water with us a great thank you for the support. It has been a joy to share the sport we love with everyone along the way”

If you have a pre-paid reservation, Sammy Duvall’s is offering refunds. “If you have a future prepaid reservation we are issuing a refund to the credit card used for your reservation,” the company said in a statement. “If you have a future non paid reservation you will be receiving a email cancellation notification today as well. If you have any questions regarding your refund you may contact 407-939-0754.”

At this point we haven’t heard if Disney will takeover the activities or bring in another vendor.

Is Walt Disney World resort a place you expect to find tubing, water skiing, or parasailing options? Did you ever enjoy any of the water-based adventure activities led by Sammy Duvall’s over in Bay Lake?

  1. My sons went parasailing on our most recent visit this past July. They thoroughly enjoyed the experience.

I’ll admit it’s an undersold attraction type, and I can see why they might have needed to close their doors. Even during the high traffic time we visited, the marina was pretty much empty of guests.

  2. With alligators and brain-eating amoeba known to be in the waters all around Central Florida — including at WDW — I would personally never undertake any activity that might even have the possibility of getting me into Bay Lake. The only water-based recreation we’ve ever done at WDW is taking the boat from one resort or park to another.

  3. I never imagined I would parasail, but we had purchased the dining plan that included everything and I was going to get my moneys worth, so I scheduled this. Had such a great time and so happy I did it. Always a nice option for a down day.
