Scott Joseph’s Orlando Food Blog is our favorite goto website when we’re looking for new and interesting food adventures in town. In addition to his consummate professional food reviewer hat, Joseph operates a yearly ‘Foodster’ Award to find the best restaurants in a multitude of genres with overall prizes for best new restaurant and best restaurant. This year Morimoto Asia at Disney Springs won for the best restaurant.

Here’s video of Scott presenting the award to executive Chef Yuhi Fujinaga along with a thank you to fans from Chef Morimoto himself.

I love what Chef Yuhi has brought to Morimoto Asia. His classical french training combined with a passion for Japanese food, especially street food, means the menu is great for sharing with others at the table. What really stands out is the quality of the fresh fish (particularly the sushi grade) and the wide selection of great wines and beers on the menu, don’t pass up on the Japanese Whiskey if that’s your drink too.

The atmosphere of the restaurant has won awards too and we love to dine upstairs where the late night menu offers something you can’t find anywhere else in town.

Here are a few of our favorites from the late night menu in the forbidden lounge:

Blistered Shishito Peppers with wasabe creme fraiche and yuzu salt are perfect for all to enjoy. Not hot at all, just delicious. The Chicken Wings and Morimoto Spare Ribs are two of the must-have items in Disney Springs no matter the time of day. Finally, there’s no better way to end the night than over a bowl of ramen with friends. Morimoto Asia offers three choices, my favorite is the Tonkotsu ramen, which features a rich pork broth you’ll want to bathe in. Add in roasted pork belly, woodear mushrooms, and a perfectly marinated egg and you have ramen perfection.

Duck Ramen

Don’t have time for a sit-down meal? The Japanese Street Food window outside is in the conversation for the best quick service at Disney Springs too. We’re big fans of the Takoyaki (Octopus fritter balls).

Congratulations to the team at Morimoto Asia for winning the Best Overall Restaurant in the Orlando Foodster awards!
