How to use the new mobile check-in feature at your Walt Disney World resort

Disney World is now making it easier than ever to check in and get your vacation started right away. The My Disney Experience app now allows you to check-in ahead of time and head straight to your room when its ready. With only a few clicks, you can check into their rooms up to 60 days prior and can complete the process by unlocking your room with their MagicBands. That means for guests already in possession of their MagicBands, the check-in process (including the ability to request a room location) can be completed without having to visit the front desk.

This My Disney Experience app update builds on the past two enhancements that included features like My Resort Dashboard, which provides easy access to vacation plans and room reservation details; and Mobile Order, (currently available at seven locations within Disney’s Animal Kingdom, Magic Kingdom and Disney Springs) which allows guests to avoid lines at select quick service locations. Disney plans to expand Mobile Order to an additional eight locations this summer and to all four of its theme parks and Disney Springs this summer, continuing its commitment to reducing wait times and increasing convenience for its guests within its resorts, theme parks and restaurants.

Here’s a quick video guide on how to use the My Disney Experience app to check-in to your resort up to 60 days ahead:

Those who prefer the personal touch of a Cast Member will still be able to get that and use the front desk to check-in as normal. If you do want to check-in with your app, be sure you have the latest version of My Disney Experience available on your iOS or Android mobile device.

I think we’re finally starting to see some of the real promise of the MyMagic+ initiative that Disney started with combining Fastpass+ with the MagicBands. I’m still hopeful we’ll see a lot more customization and resort features that utilize the MagicBands.

What do you think? Will use online check-in on your next Walt Disney World trip?

  1. I’ve been checking in 60 days prior and going right to my room for several years now. Not sure why this is so exciting and new other than apparently it can occur from the mobile app rather than from the standard website.

    1. Right?? I was confused by this too but thought maybe it was just a DVC thing where you could Check in online. I had a text with my room number before I even boarded my flight.
