Star Wars Rebels: The Complete Season 2 Blu-Ray DVD Review

Since Lucasfilm was sold to Disney and the story team decided to do away with the expanded universe, there has been some great storytelling in the new universe. Some of the best has been in a half-hour animated television series – Star Wars Rebels.

The Blu-Ray has one exclusive bonus feature “From Apprentice to Adversary: Vader vs. Ahsoka.” It features Executive Producer Dave Filoni as he reflects on the climactic ending of the season, when Ahsoka Tano finally confronts Darth Vader in a long-awaited, fierce and epic lightsaber battle. You can really feel Filoni’s passion for the story and the characters.

My other favorite DVD extra was “Connecting the Galaxy: Rebels Season Two.” In it you get to explore all the easter eggs and hidden references you may have missed when watching it on TV.

I’m a sucker for director commentaries and would have liked those, but the “Rebel Recons” made up for it with good behind the scenes footage you may have missed.

Season three of “Star Wars Rebels” promises to be even better than season 2 and it was pretty fantastic. We finally get to see some additional backstory for the crew of the ghost, all the way moving toward an ultimate conflict with Vader and Ahsoka. The payoff is fantastic.
