Dancing With the Stars Announces Cast for 22nd Season

dwts-season22

This morning the 22nd season cast of ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” was announced on network’s “Good Morning America” show. It includes a multi-platinum selling recording artist, a Peabody Award winner, a UFC fighter, and Super Bowl 50′s MVP, to name a few.

A few of the cast had been teasingly revealed last week: Jodie Sweetin of “Fuller House,” and GMA’s own chief meteorologist Ginger Zee. But this morning we got the full cast and their matching professional dancing partners.

Here is the full list of couples for the 22nd season:

Mischa Barton with Artem Chigvintsev

Barton is best known for her role of Marisa Cooper on the FOX TV show “The O.C.,” and is currently in production on the independent film “Father.”

Antonio Brown with Sharna Burgess

Brown is an NFL wide receiver and punt returner for the Pittsburgh Steelers. The four-time Pro-Bowl selectee was named the Pittsburgh Steelers MVP in 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Nyle DiMarco with Peta Murgatroyd

DiMarco is an actor, model and spokesman who was the winner of “America’s Next Top Model” Cycle 22. He is deaf and uses American Sign Language, which requires the use of facial expressions and body movements. He views his deafness is an asset and not a limitation.

Kim Fields with Sasha Farber

Fields is an accomplished actress, director, producer and writer. As an actress, Fields is best known for her starring roles in two iconic shows: “Living Single” and “The Facts Of Life,” and most recently she joined the cast of Bravo’s “The Real Housewives of Atlanta.”

Doug Flutie with Karina Smirnoff

Flutie’s name has been synonymous with excellence in both college and professional football. Known for the famous “Hail Mary” pass against University of Miami to win the Orange Bowl in college, he went on to play for the Chicago Bears, New England Patriots, San Diego Chargers, and New England Patriots. He currently serves as an analyst for NBC Sports Group’s NFL shoulder programming, which includes Pro Football Talk on NBCSN.

Marla Maples with Tony Dovolani

Maples is best known as an ex-wife of Donald J. Trump, but she is also an actress with film, TV, and Broadway roles to her credit. She is a musical artist and a philanthropist, as well.

Von Miller with Witney Carson

Denver Broncos linebacker Miller was named MVP of Super Bowl 50. A fifth-year linebacker and four-time Pro Bowl selection, his 60 career sacks through his first five seasons represent the sixth most in NFL (since 1982) history. In 2012, he started Von’s Vision, a foundation dedicated to providing eye care and glasses to underprivileged youth.

Wanya Morris with Lindsay Arnold

Morris is an original member of the R&B group Boyz II Men, which has become the bestselling R&B group of all time with an astounding 64 million albums sold. The group has won four Grammy Awards, nine American Music Awards, nine Soul Train Awards, three Billboard Awards, and a 2011 MOBO Award for Outstanding Contribution to Music, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, as well as a Casino Entertainment Award for their acclaimed residency at the Mirage Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, which has been extended through 2018.

Geraldo Rivera with Edyta Sliwinska

Rivera began his 45-year career as a television reporter at WABC-TV in New York, and went on to become an original member of the “Good Morning America” cast, an investigative reporter for “20/20,” and then hosted “The Geraldo Rivera Show” for 11 years. The Emmy and Peabody Award-winning journalist is currently a Fox News senior correspondent and host of breaking news specials the “Geraldo Rivera Reports.”

Jodie Sweetin with Keo Motsepe

Sweetin garnered the love of millions in her role as Stephanie Tanner on ABC’s long-running, hugely popular sitcom “Full House,” and is currently reprising that role on Netflix’s “Fuller House” spin-off. She also published her memoir, “UnSweetined,” in 2009, documenting her life growing up in the spotlight.

Paige VanZant with Mark Ballas

Paige “12 Gauge” VanZant is the youngest and one of the most popular fighters in the UFC. With a record of 6-2-0, she is currently a top ranked contender in the women’s straw-weight division. She also grew up dancing, as her parents owned a dance studio.

Ginger Zee with Valentin Chmerkovskiy

Emmy Award-winner, Ginger Zee is Good Morning America’s chief meteorologist, as well as reporting reports across all ABC News broadcasts and digital platforms and also serves as chief meteorologist for ABC News. This new mom is also an adventure junkie who has gone para-hawking in Nepal, para-glided from the Himalayas to the Andes, dove with sharks in the Bahamas, and rappelled 27 stories down the exterior façade of the Wit Hotel in Chicago.

Well, there you have it. The full celebrity cast of “Dancing With the Stars” Season 22. My picks for top dancers would be VanZant who grew up dancing and has the stamina from being a MMA fighter, and Jodie Sweetin, who has shown some pretty slick dancing moves on a recent episode of “Fuller House.”

Surprises could come from Zee, who may have just given birth in December, but is up to big physical challenges, and DiMarco, who while he can’t hear the music, can feel the vibrations and respond to his partner’s sight cues.

Among the first to go? I’d have to go with Rivera, Maples, and Miller, as their quick dance moves coming out during the announcement felt stiff.

What do you think? Who are your picks for winning the mirrorball trophy in Season 22? Last season’s winner Bindi Irwin showed up with some advice for winning this season:

“Dancing With the Stars” Season 22 kicks off with a 2-hour live premiere on Monday March 21 from 8-10:01pm EDT.

If you missed the GMA announcement this morning, here is the big reveal, hosted by Michael Strahan and Lara Spencer:
