We are very sad to hear the news today that Alan Rickman, a much-loved actor of stage and screen, has died in London at the age of 69. Known for his wide range of acting, conquering the hearts of fans everywhere with his villainous characters, comedic takes, and passionate heroes, he will be much missed by all.

Rickman was best known to the younger generations as Professor Snape from the Harry Potter films, while older fans may remember him as Hans Gruber from Die Hard or the Sheriff of Nottingham from Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. However, his career was much more varied.

J.K. Rowling, author of the Harry Potter books tweeted the following:

There are no words to express how shocked and devastated I am to hear of Alan Rickman’s death. He was a magnificent actor & a wonderful man.

We agree J.K., we agree.

In Disney movies he voiced the Absolem the blue Caterpillar in the two Alice in Wonderland live-action movies and was the voice of Marvin the depressed robot in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

That we only had his talents for 69 years is a robbery, but what he gave us is a giant gift that will be remembered and enjoyed for generations to come. Our deepest condolences to Rickman’s family and friends for their tremendous loss.
