With the record breaking mega-hit “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” picking up another estimated $30 Million at Monday’s Box Office, the Walt Disney Studios has crossed the threshold of $5 billion in Global box office grosses. Films like “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” “Inside Out,” “Cinderella,” and “Ant-Man” helped generate the huge numbers, but the half-billion plus already generated by Star Wars really helped. The previous best Global box office take for Disney was in 2013 when they reached $4.73 billion.

As for domestic numbers, Disney has earned an amazing $1.86 billion already in 2015 with just 15 films (and just 11 releases). Universal Studios did a lot better with $2.4 billion, but they had 23 films in their quiver. Under Bob Iger Disney has always been judicious with the number of films it releases each year, perhaps they need to up their volume just a bit for the change to make even more box office gold. They certainly have the franchises to do it.

Do you think that $4.1 billion purchase of Lucasfilm has paid off for Disney yet?
