Disney Cruise Line Announces New Intineraries and Ports for 2014

Disney Fantasy at Sea

I know that most families, our included, are barely thinking two weeks ahead most of the time, but if you’ve ever wanted to take a Disney Cruise 2014 is shaping up to be an amazing year for the Disney Cruise Line. The division is realigning its ships so that all four will be departing from Florida at the same time in early 2014.

In the early part of 2014, the Disney Magic will return to Port Canaveral, Fla., joining the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy, while the Disney Wonder will homeport in Miami. During this time, guests will have more opportunities than ever to enjoy a Disney cruise that visits Disney’s private island in the Bahamas reserved exclusively for Disney Cruise Line guests, Castaway Cay.

This will mean busy days for the white sand beaches and azure waters of Castaway Cay. Guests will also be tempted to combine a visit to Walt Disney World Resort and experience the expanded Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom. At least that’s the plan.

Castle 5-9: Secret Santa

Nothing makes it feel like Christmas like a murder. (Okay, I’m actually reading a mystery set at Christmas time right now, and I’ve read plenty of others over the years.) Despite this being season 5, this is the first Christmas episode we’ve gotten of Castle, and it was a fun one. As my roommate will attest, I was laughing at lots of the lines over the course of the episode.

The episode opens in a not so nice way as a family is in a park making snow angels when Santa falls from the sky nearby dead. Talk about trauma for the child.Read More »Castle 5-9: Secret Santa

Clowns invade Storybook Circus at Magic Kingdom

Giggle Gang Clowns at Storybook Circus

Guests visiting the Storybook Circus section of Fantasyland find themselves immersed in a small town where the Circus has just rolled in off the train tracks to set up its show. So far we have a two-ring circus full of flying elephants, daring airplane stuntmen, a sideshow, and a big top souvenir stand… so it should be no surprise that clowns will be part of the milieu. The clowns will be joined by the Silly Saxtet, a new musical group at the Magic Kingdom, with a playlist of circus favorites with a unique twist.

The Storybook Circus Giggle Gang is set to debut with the official opening of New Fantasyland later this week. According to the Disney Parks Blog the troop of clowns includes a variety of training and experiences, including some from the prestigious Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Clown College.

Woman Sues Disney World over Jungle Cruise Docking Incident

Jungle Cruise - Courtesy Disney

Update: a cast member on the Jungle Cruise lends some insight below.

A woman is suing Walt Disney World over injuries she claims to have suffered on the Jungle Cruise attraction at the Magic Kingdom. The guest claims she was unloading from the boat when it was struck from behind causing her to fall. She wants $15,000 in compensation for her injury, her hospital visit and lost wages.

If the guest’s claim is true, Disney will likely have video of it. However, based on her story, I have doubts it happened exactly that way. The boats at the Magic Kingdom’s Jungle Cruise unload one at a time and the boat behind it does not approach within even a half-dozen yards until the boat at the dock is empty. At least that’s Standard Operating Procedure as I’ve experienced it. For her boat to be struck while she was disembarking seems like there was a pretty bad violation of safety standards. If that was indeed the case, it would not be that difficult for Disney to implement a gate system to prevent this sort of collision while unloading going forward.
