Disney’s Wide World of Sports does not hold a monopoly on getting athletes to visit. Disneyland Paris is close enough to Roland Garros to attract one of the world’s greatest tennis stars. The simultaneous holder of four Grand Slam singles titles, Serena Williams, took a… Read More »Serena Williams Hanging With Minnie at Disneyland Paris
Continuing a tradition that started with Walt Disney’s nature films, the Walt Disney Company has announced that the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund has awarded grants for 67 Conservation Projects Worldwide.
In celebration of World Environment Day, Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund (DWCF) today announced the funding of programs that will support more than 90 species and promote habitat conservation in 33 countries. The 2009 DWCF grant recipients will receive almost $1.5 million for efforts ranging from protecting Pakistan’s majestic Snow Leopards, to following the migration of Magellanic penguins in Argentina to reintroducing endangered Whooping Cranes in eastern North America.
“Creating a positive ecosystem impact is a key goal of The Walt Disney Company. The Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund is a natural extension of that philosophy, enabling leading environmental organizations and scientists to address some of the most critical issues facing animals and ecosystems around the world. We applaud these deserving recipients and are pleased to play a part in their efforts,” said Dr. Beth Stevens, senior vice president, environmental affairs, The Walt Disney Company.

It has become a tradition among the mayors of towns involved in a sports championship to make a friendly wager hooked to which team wins out. Usually the prize is food or some sort or wearing the other teams jersey for a day. Since this is now known as the Disneyland Vs. Disney World NBA finals (a fact I’m sure makes Disney’s marketing gurus happy beyond belief despite its origin on TNT sports) it only makes sense that the ‘mayors’ of those two theme parks and resorts make their own wagers.
Walt Disney World President Meg Crofton and Disneyland President Ed Grier have decided to take the team jersey approach and will wear Mickey Mouse ears with the opposing teams colors if their city’s team loses.
I lived in Los Angeles during the Shaq/Kobe championship runs. That was quite an amazing time for a sports fan. Of course, now I live in Orlando. So who do I root for? I have to say my heart is with the Orlando Magic. They’re a great team and its a deserving community. Plus they’re named ‘Magic’ how can you get more Disney than that?
Actually it’s from Disney’s Family.com, but never mind. Go download this great papercraft project where you can print and then fold together your own model of Carl’s house, complete with balloons, from Pixar’s animated feature ‘UP’. I’ll be doing it myself tomorrow.
Back in 2006 when Handy Manny was first broadcast on the Disney Channel, I wrote about the lack of toys available for this very popular series. There were dozens and dozens of comments on that post asking where they could find Handy Manny toys. I… Read More »New Pooh Movie among Disney’s new licensing plans

It’s no secret that UP is doing well, and it should, it’s awesome. Yes, that about sums it up: AWESOME.
My wife and I took the boys (ages 3 and 5, respectively) to an advanced screening at the beautiful El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, CA, which begs the question why did it take this long to write a review? Eh, it’s a long story and it can’t compete with anything PIXAR is offering so we’ll just skip the excuses and get straight to the heart of the matter, which happens to be just that, the heart of the matter. UP is about heart and lots of it.
Sure, the same can be argued for just about anything that Disney-PIXAR has created, and it would all be true, but UP takes the idea to new heights – and I’m not talking balloons here. It’s an epic love story wrapped in a layer of silly, sweet fun, the likes of which haven’t been seen on screen since, well, WALL-E.
