Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, Ep. 3

On previous episodes of the Revolution, Jamie was given a hard time from many corners, and ran up against quite a few roadblocks, but he was approved for a couple more weeks of cooking at the elementary school.

This week’s episode opens with the always-negative DJ Rod taking a call from a supportive Huntington resident, while Jamie drives along listening. Rod chortles that they’ll all be civil to Jamie while he’s here, but once he leaves, they’ll go back to eating “the side of a cow” or whatever else they want to eat. Rod, FYI: it’s not the side of a cow that’s making your town fat.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution, Episode 2

  • by

Last week (and in the previous hour) on Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution: Jamie came to Huntington, West Virgina and met with challenges and failures at every turn. A radio DJ full of attitude, uncooperative lunch ladies, delicious-looking chicken battling against pizza (and losing), and a newspaper article blasting Jamie’s project and taking his quotes out of context. He certainly has his work cut out for him.

Episode 2 opens with a visit back to the local radio station, where he’s explaining the newspaper article and defending himself. DJ Rod is civil, but admits that he still doesn’t like Jamie at all. If Jamie wins over DJ Rod, I’ll be delighted, because the guy is just a sourpuss.

Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution – Preview Episode

Huntington, West Virginia, a city of 50,000 is officially the ‘unhealthiest city in America.’ That makes it the perfect target for Jamie Oliver, a young chef from England who succeeded in revolutionizing the school food system in that country. But will the city embrace Oliver’s attempt?

Tonight was a special preview episode of the show that debuts Friday this week on ABC. Here’s my recap, but if you found yourself watching this show and would like to write recaps of the show for The Disney Blog, drop me a line.

Jamie’s starts his conquest with an interview with local DJ Rod Willis. It didn’t quite go the way Jamie wanted it to as the DJ was being an obstinate jerk about Jamie’s effort to make a change.

Next up Jamie takes on a challenge to makeover the school’s food menu in a week. What he discovers is ‘Breakfast Pizza’ – not eggs on toast, but real pizza with cheese, pepperoni, and everything. I’m in disbelief as was Jamie.

ABC Picks Up Three New Shows

ABC has picked up two dramas and one comedy to help round out their schedule. Successful drama pilots, both from ABC Studios and both medical dramas, are “Off the Map” and “Body of Evidence”. Neither looks like a LOST replacement to me. The comedy is… Read More »ABC Picks Up Three New Shows

LOST Island should stay away fom Disneyland

I have to say I’m in agreement with David at Disney-O-Rama that the folks organizing the petition to get Disneyland to turn Tom Sawyer Island into LOST island are barking up the wrong tree. That’s not to say that I wouldn’t appreciate finding more ABC… Read More »LOST Island should stay away fom Disneyland

Dancing with the Stars: Week 9 Results

  • by

Last night, all danced thrice. Tonight, three will remain. Who does America like the least? Let’s find out, after 55 minutes of filler, on … Dancing with the Stars!

The encore dance is, unsurprisingly, Mya & Dmitry doing their Salsa. It earned a perfect 30, and we once again get to see why. I always secretly hope someone falls down during the encore dance, but my secret hopes are always dashed. They’re just as awesome, and get a huge standing ovation.

It’s time for recaps of last night. We find out that Kelly’s Rumba solo was almost completely improvised because she forgot her choreography, and they were concerned about top-poppage in her yellow dress. Joanna savored comments from the judges. Donny suffered Dressgate 2009, but came back with two great dances. Mya slaughtered all three dances and got Len to remark not once, but TWICE about her posterior.

Who’s going home? Find out after the cut, and 50 more minutes of filler. Read More »Dancing with the Stars: Week 9 Results

“V” Episode 2: There is no normal anymore

Although record numbers tuned in for the premiere last week, Episode 2 saw those ratings fall 30%. And while the collective complaint of the first episode was the lightning speed with which it moved and how much was packed in, I found last night’s episode excruciatingly slow. There was, in my humble opinion, very little forward movement to this episode – we have very little new info about what our sneaky lizards are up to and our newly founded resistance members Erica and Jack seemed a little shell-shocked.

But perhaps the plot this week is a reflection of how it usually is in times of sweeping crisis or change – hurry up and wait. Initial enthusiasm and excitement quickly gives way to the need-some-time-to process-this reality of most things in life.

And indeed, our heroes, at least, need some time to process all that they’ve experienced since the Visitors came calling. It provides some convenient filler while the question of the episode is decided: Will the US agree to diplomatic relations with the Visitors or not?
