Once Upon a Time

Once Upon a Time 1-14: Dreamy

When it comes to fairy tales, the biggest question that has never been answered is, why is Grumpy grumpy? Okay, okay, so I’ve never really wondered that, but that’s what was explored on this week’s Once Upon a Time. We even got a cameo by a guest star from a couple episodes back and Amy Acker as a new character. Here’s hoping they can get her back as well.

The parallels between the Fairy Tale romance of Dreamy (aka Grumpy) and Nova the fairy and the Storybrooke relationship between Leroy and Sister Astrid were fun. Plus we also got an update on Katherine’s disappearance.

We’ve got lots of ground to cover, so let’s start in Fairy Tale.Read More »Once Upon a Time 1-14: Dreamy

Once Upon a Time 1-13: What Happened to Frederick

When I saw the title of this episode, I was wondering who exactly Frederick was. I was wondering if he was someone we’d met before, but he wasn’t ringing any bells. Fortunately, he wasn’t someone I’d forgotten, and I loved his twist to the story.

Plus tonight we found out a little more about Snow White and Prince Charming (aka James). Their story in Fairy Tale is just fascinating to me since they have added so many twists to it. All told, it was another great episode.

I should start this recap by admitting something I haven’t had to since I started the recaps. Read More »Once Upon a Time 1-13: What Happened to Frederick

Once Upon a Time Episode 1-12: Skin Deep

I love Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. It’s one of my favorite movies of all time (along with Monster’s, Inc. and Up). So I’ve been looking forward to seeing how Once Upon a Time would tackle the familiar tale ever since I learned that that had cast Lost‘s Emilie de Ravin in the part. I was not disappointed.

Not only that, but this episode featured the return of another couple characters and a huge revelation I had suspected all along. Plus psych‘s Sage Brocklebank (recurring character Buzz McNab over there) also guest starred as Gaston.

While this episode felt jammed packed, I also felt it was fairly simple in some regards. And I think the story is best told as they told it – alternating between Storybrooke and Fairy Tale.Read More »Once Upon a Time Episode 1-12: Skin Deep

Once Upon a Time 1-11: Fruit of the Poisonous Tree

Is it any wonder I love this show? This episode had me feeling sorry for Regina and agreeing with her at times but also so angry at her I wanted to yell at her. All this while learning the origins of someone else in Storybrooke and watching Emma behave stupidly.

Shall we get to it? Let’s start this week with the Fairy Tale KingdomRead More »Once Upon a Time 1-11: Fruit of the Poisonous Tree

Once Upon a Time 1.10 – 7:10 AM Recap

It’s been a while since I recapped anything for this blog, but I’ve found that I missed it. Since I’ve fallen in love with Once Upon a Time, I thought I’d jump in and talk about that.

I always find it interesting how the world of TV works. This season we got two new shows with fairy tale elements to them. I watched them both for a couple of weeks, but Once Upon a Time is the one I stuck with because I like their twist on classic fairytales and I like how they parallel the modern, real world stories with the fairytale they are retelling. Yes, the Lost connections are everywhere behind the scenes, and since I didn’t like how that show ended, it does worry me some. I’m hoping since the guys behind this show weren’t ultimately responsible for Lost, I’ll wind up liking this one better.

Last week’s episode was the first miss for me, mainly because I just didn’t care about the outcome. We were focusing on new characters, and I’m more interested in the main cast at this point. So I was rewarded with last night’s episode in a big way.Read More »Once Upon a Time 1.10 – 7:10 AM Recap

Once Upon a Time: Season 1, Episode 4 – The Price of Gold

This week’s episode started with another familiar story. Cinderella was weeping as her stepsisters went off to the ball, but her fairy godmother shows up…but she “explodes” and Rumpelstiltskin appears and takes her wand. He makes a deal with her, but she promises to give… Read More »Once Upon a Time: Season 1, Episode 4 – The Price of Gold
