If you’re any sort of Disney fan, then you’re familiar with the story of Cinderella — the poor child whose mother dies and is left in the care of a wicked stepmother who favors her own two daughters over Ella. The original animated Disney classic is very nearly perfection, so why then would Disney want to remake it for modern audiences? I think the answer lays in the question.
The technical abilities of movies has progressed so far in just the last few years, that Disney really can pull off a live action version of the movie. They can even give away so much in the trailer, because they know that audiences already love the story, the movie will allow new audiences to experience the story in a deeper more nuanced way.
When you look at these photos that were provided by Disney Studios to promote the film, you can see how richly detailed the world created for this movie is. From amazing costumes to set decorations that are over the top. There’s lots of scenery to be chewed as well. And yes, there are friendly mice and a fairy godmother as well.
There’s something about hand-drawn animation and its ability to draw up major emotions with just a few curves of a pencil. So, even though Big Hero 6 is computer animated, it’s no surprise Disney turned to an anime inspired look to market the movie in… Read More »Hand Drawn trailer helps market Big Hero 6 in Japan
The Disney Store UK has released a charming Christmas ad that features a chain reaction involving hundreds of toys, apparel, and other merchandise. Rube Goldberg would have been proud.
You saw the poster earlier with the first trailer for Disney’s live action remake of Cinderella, but did you detect something special. Okay, Lily James as Cinderella is pretty special by herself, but the artistic eye of photographer Annie Leibobitz actually took the photo, as well as a number of other photos, to help promote the film. Many of those photos are available on newstands now inside Vogue magazine’s December issue.
If that poster looks familiar, it probably reminds you of the very first photo in Annie Leibovitz’s Disney Dream Portrait Series with Scarlett Johansson as Cinderella taken way back in 2007.
I guess it’s okay if great artists steal from themselves, right?
The Plaza (or Hub) at the Magic Kingdom is undergoing a major renovation in order to improve guest flow during the busy show and parade times. We’re back with another look at the progress made so far. We had two updates in September, but we actually skipped October. So there’s been quite a bit of progress since we last checked in.
The side closer to Crystal Palace is closer to completion. You can start to see where the viewing area/garden area will take shape as well a the new path that will lead from near Crystal Palace into the hub. The Tomorrowland Terrace side is a bit further behind, and there’s more work to be done as they also have to build a new seating area in front of the Plaza Restaurant.
The end result of this construction will be a wider area leading from Main Street to the Hub. There will be two garden areas that can be used for fireworks viewing parties, expanded outside seating for Casey’s Jr and some much needed seating for the Ice Cream Palace and Starbucks.
It’s official, we have the first full trailer for Disney live-action adaptation of Cinderella! Directed by Sir Kenneth Branagh, this film seems to pack nostalgia for the animated original in spades.
