Ever wanted to stay in Carl’s house from Pixar’s “Up,” or Professor X’s school mansion from the X-Men? Now you might be able to with Airbnb’s new Icons collection of rentals
The Details
Airbnb will embrace pop culture to offer its users the ability to stay in iconic properties, both real and fictional, from movies and TV.
Disney has three-themed properties listed.
Located in New Mexico, Carl’s house from the Pixar film “Up,” was recreated room by room, and it can actually be suspended in the air by a crane.
The listing is written as if Carl was actually placing it, and these stays will often include activities, and Carl’s includes things like stargazing and wilderness excursions.
Meanwhile the X-Men’s Xavier Institute for Higher Learning mansion is located in Westchester County in New York state, and features an interior that has been meticulously hand-painted so as to appear two-dimensional, as in the cartoon, with the bedrooms, Professor X’s office, Beast’s lab, and even a “danger room” available for guests to explore.
Plus, each of the bedrooms is themed to different X-Men, with small details that are true to the character (Wolverine’s alarm clock has claw marks, for example).
And Airbnb is currently working on a lodging to celebrate the June 14th release of “Inside Out 2,” which will take its inspiration from the Control Room in Riley’s head. Your host, Joy, will welcome you into her vibrant world to witness the emotions in action and help keep things in balance.
Airbnb will have 11 Icons at launch, and is promising to refresh it with new offerings throughout the year. Most will be free and first-come, first-serve, but even the ones with a fee will cost under $100 per person, per night (the X-Men mansion, for example, will be $97, but includes the overnight stay, the X-Men training experience, dinner, and breakfast).
