In an interesting twist, it seems the second season of “Doctor Who” with the new Fifteenth Doctor will have two companions again.
Here’s what you need to know.
New Companion
In January 2024, it was revealed actress Varada Sethu (“Andor,” “Jurassic World Dominion”) was hired to play a new companion character.
It seemed as though that meant Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), would be a one season companion…but it turns out the two companions will both appear in the second season with the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa), which will air in 2025.
“I first worked with Varada on a BBC production of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream,’ and it’s a joy to welcome her on board the TARDIS. Right now in the studio, shooting for 2025, we’ve got Ncuti, Millie and Varada fighting side by side – we need all three because the stakes are higher than ever,” showrunner Russell T Davies said in a statement about the casting.
“I feel like the luckiest person in the world,” shared Sethu in the statement. “It is such an honor to be a part of the Whoniverse, and I’m so grateful to the whole Doctor Who family – because that is what they are – for welcoming me with open arms and making me feel so at home. I couldn’t ask for a better team than Ncuti and Millie to be on this adventure with. This is SO much fun!”
No further details have been released regarding Sethu’s companion role.
