Disney’s Freaky Friday sequel, teased for a number of years, seems to finally be a go as a director has been picked and the two original stars are in talks to return.
The Details
The studio has picked Nisha Ganatra, who most recently helmed episodes of the Emmy-nominated Hulu miniseries “Welcome to Chippendales,” to direct this sequel.
No word yet on the plot of the new film, but a script has been written by Jordan Weiss, and a summer shoot in Los Angeles is planned. No word either if it will have a theatrical release, or stream on Disney+.
Actresses Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are in talks to return in their roles of mother and daughter who magically switch bodies. It seems likely they’ll re-sign, as Curtis recently posted a photo of her and Lohan with a caption that read, “FFDEUX!”
The Original film
Released in 2003, “Freaky Friday” revolves around Tess Coleman (Curtis), a single mother and uptight psychiatrist, and her rebellious teenage daughter, Anna (Lohan).
Constantly at odds with each other due to their differing perspectives on life, they find themselves magically swapping bodies after a mysterious fortune cookie incident at a Chinese restaurant. As Tess wakes up in Anna’s body and vice versa, they are forced to live each other’s lives for a day.
It’s available to stream on Disney+.
