20th Century Studios has finally released the first trailer for “Alien: Romulus,” which could be the biggest horror movie of this coming summer, and it looks really good.
The Details
This film is the ninth in the franchise from the studio, counting the crossovers with “The Predator,” and is directed by Fede Álvarez (“The Evil Dead,” “Don’t Breathe”), who also co-wrote the script with Rodo Sayagues.
It tells the story of a group of young space colonizers who, while scavenging a derelict space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in the universe.
The film has a cast that’s led by Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”) and Isabela Merced (“Madame Web”), as well David Jonsson, Archie Renaux, Spike Fearn and Aileen Wu.
Álvarez says “Romulus” falls in the franchise timeline’s 57-year span between the original “Alien” (1979) directed by Ridley Scott, and “Aliens” (1986), directed by soon-to-be Disney Legend James Cameron.
“Alien: Romulus” premieres in theaters on August 16, 2024.
The Trailer
Opening with a ship approaching a space station, the viewer then sees shots of dimly-lit, abandoned hexagonal corridors, punctuated with cries for help and screams. But it’s not long before the characters are on the run from those familiar scurrying facehuggers.
