Disney’s “The Lion King” is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and where better to hold this celebration than at Disney’s Animal Kingdom at Walt Disney World.

The Details

“The Lion King” was released on June 24, 1994, and Disney is holding a summer-long event to celebrate its 30th anniversary!

From from June 10 through September 6, 2024, the park will offer special character meet and greets, themed limited time menu items, merchandise, and more.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom is already home to the fan-favorite stage show, “Festival of The Lion King,” but this summer will see Timon and Rafiki returning to meet guests at Rafiki’s Planet Watch.

And, while you’re at Rafiki’s Planet Watch, you can visit Animation Experience and learn to draw characters from “The Lion King.”

Timon’s bestie also returns, but in collectible form, as the Pumbaa popcorn bucket will be available all summer.

And of course there will be a whole new merchandise collection, and special menu items available – we will have more information as we get closer to the kick off date.

  1. Love this celebration and I love the Lion King! It’s definitely in my top 5 Disney movies. 😊 Any idea what the limited-time treats will be? This is probably weird but I’d love to see something based on the bowl of bugs that Timon and Pumba give to Simba instead of “a whole zebra!” Maybe dirt pudding! -Lindsey
