As if we’re not excited enough for the return of “Doctor Who” in May, Disney+ and the BBC have dropped the official trailer for the new season,
The Details
This new season will be the first with the Fifteenth Doctor (Ncuti Gatwa) and his companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson), and according to the press release, this season of “Doctor Who” follows the Doctor and Ruby “through infinite adventures across time and space in the TARDIS. From the Regency era in England to war-torn futures, the duo champion the forces of good while encountering incredible friends and dangerous foes.”
Also revealed this week: Former showrunner Steven Moffat has written an episode that will be directed by Julie-Anne Robinson for this new season of the show. He was also showrunner during the Matt Smith and Peter Capaldi eras.
Speaking on his return to the Whoniverse, Moffat says:
“Yes, okay, fair enough – apologies to everyone I’ve very slightly misled – I am in fact writing an episode of the series of Doctor Who. Exactly like I said I never would. What can I tell you? There was begging, there was pleading but finally Russell agreed to let me have another go – so long as I got out of his garden. Working with old friends and a brand new Doctor I couldn’t be happier. Sorry I was a bit reticent on the subject for so long. It was all part of an elaborate plan that would have delighted millions but at the last minute I forgot what it was.”
When asked for a keyword to describe the overall tone of the episode hMoffat said: “Hitchcock.”
We also know that Jinx Monsoon will play this season’s main villain, and it was just announced that Callie Cooke has joined in an undisclosed role.
Previously announced additional cast members include Aneurin Barnard, Anita Dobson, Yasmin Finney, Michelle Greenidge, Jonathan Groff, Bonnie Langford, Jinkx Monsoon, Genesis Lynea, Jemma Redgrave, Lenny Rush, Indira Varma, and Angela Wynter.
