Searchlight Pictures newest film, “Suncoast,” starring Nico Parker, Laura Linney, and Woody Harrelson debuts for streaming on Hulu Friday, February 9, 2024.
About the Film
“Suncoast” is a dramedy inspired by the semi-autobiographical story of a teenager (Nico Parker) who, while caring for her brother along with her audacious mother (Laura Linney), strikes up an unlikely friendship with an eccentric activist (Woody Harrelson), who just happens to be protesting one of the most landmark medical cases of all time.
Directed and Written by Laura Chinn, she wrote the script inspired by her own teenage experience.
Set in 2005 in St. Petersburg, Florida, “Suncoast” is a sensitively told coming-of-age story as Chinn’s young heroine, Doris (Parker) finds friendship through unexpected connections and gestures and is forced to reckon with the gravity of her brother’s health.
The film debuted at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it won the U.S. Dramatic Special Jury Award for Breakthrough Performance for actress Nico Parker.
