The Walt Disney Company Receives 30 Annie Awards Nominations Plus Will Receive Special Honor at Ceremony

51st Annie Awards Nominations
.

Nominations for the 51st Annie Awards have been announced, and not only has The Walt Disney Company received 30 nominations between its film and TV projects, but Disney Animation will also be receiving a special honor.

The Annie Awards are accolades which the Los Angeles branch of the International Animated Film Association gives out to recognize what they feel are the best of the year in animation.

Pixar’s “Elemental” scored six nominations, but surprisingly, was not one of the five films picked for best feature, which could hurt its chances at the Oscars.

Since the Academy Awards’ Best Animated Feature category was launched in 2002, 14 of the 21 winners of the Annies’ top feature prize, including seven of the past 11, went on to claim Oscar’s gold statue.

Disney’s “Wish” didn’t even get one nomination this year.

Disney did better with its TV series, with Season 2 of Lucasfilm’s Disney+ series “Star Wars: Visions” receiving six nominations.

Also receiving multiple nominations were Disney+ series “Kizazi Moto: Generation Fire,” and Disney Channel’s “Marvel’s Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur” with four nominations each, and Marvel Studios’ Disney+ series “What If…?” season two with two nominations.

Finally, a Special Achievement Award will be presented to the artists of Walt Disney Animation. The Special Achievement Award is given to honor unique and outstanding work not recognized within the existing award category structure.

The 51st annual Annie Awards will be held on Saturday, Feb. 17, at UCLA’s Royce Hall. A pre-show reception will begin at 4:30pm, followed by the ceremony at 7pm. Neither is expected to be televised or streamed.
