Disneyland Resort is dropping the curtain on its “Tale of the Lion King” at the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland Park. Final performances will be on January 7, 2024, according to Disneyland.
The Details
“Tale of the Lion King” is a musical stage show that offered a new adaptation of the ancestral story of how a young lion cub becomes king of the jungle told with singers, dancers and drummers.
Narrated by the Storytellers of the Pride Lands, Simba’s rise to royalty is presented in a unique, theatrical style—with live music and dance inspired by the cultural roots of this timeless story.
The stirring tale of Simba, Nala, Mufasa, Scar, Timon and Pumbaa features new arrangements of treasured songs, including “Circle of Life,” “Hakuna Matata” and “Can You Feel the Love Tonight.”
The show first opened in June 2019 on the outdoor Palisades Park at Disney California Adventure, but was closed less than a year later when the parks closed for the pandemic.
It returned in May 2022 in a new home at the Fantasyland Theater, with a new stage and new production.
And now January 7, 2024 will be the last day to see the production before it goes dark again.
The Future
A new show for the Fantasyland Theatre has not been announced yet, and with the August 2023 closure of “Rogers: The Musical” at Disney California Adventure’s Hyperion Theater, that will leave the Disneyland resort with two dark theaters once the Christmas holiday season comes to a close in early January 2024.
