Marvel Studios has released the first trailer for it’s upcoming “Hawkeye” spin-off series, “Echo,” and while it shares some characters with its parent show, this new series is a bit darker and grittier.
The Details
Audiences first met Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox), aka Echo, in “Hawkeye,” along with Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio), aka Kingpin, in the “Hawkeye” series.
In “Echo,” she is being pursued by Kingpin’s criminal empire. When the journey brings her home, she must confront her own family and legacy. Her nickname comes from the fact that she can can perfectly replicate another person’s moves.
The character of Echo is both Marvel’s first Native American lead and first deaf lead character in a series.
Echo also stars Chaske Spencer, Graham Greene, Tantoo Cardinal, Devery Jacobs, Zahn McClarnon, and Cody Lightning. There is a rumor that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil will cameo, as well.
Episodes of the series are directed by Sydney Freeland (Navajo) and Catriona McKenzie (Gunaikurnai). Executive producers are Kevin Feige, Stephen Broussard, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Victoria Alonso, Richie Palmer, Jason Gavin (Blackfeet), Marion Dayre and Sydney Freeland. Co-executive producers are Jennifer L. Booth and Amy Rardin.
How to Watch
All episodes of Marvel Studios’ “Echo,” will drop at once January 10, 2024 on both Disney+ and Hulu. They will be available on Hulu until April 9.
The series will also mark Marvel’s first TV-MA rating for a show on Disney+, so you may need to adjust your Disney+ profile to watch it.
The Trailer
This first look at “Echo” shows how she and Kingpin first met, and gives us some background on her life, and the conflicts she faces between her family’s world, and her life of crime with Kingpin.
Be aware this trailer is a bit violent, and does have a little bit of blood, if that bothers you.
Interestingly, Marvel has released a second version of this trailer subtitled in the Native American Choctaw language.
