Disney/20th Century Studios release “The Creator” has come in at #3 on its opening weekend box office, but adding in the international markets, bumps up to #2 globally.
The Box Office
Facing new release competition from the family friendly sequel “PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie,” which came in at #1 with $23 million, and the horror sequel “Saw X,” which came in second with $18 million, the sci-fi epic “The Creator” from Gareth Edwards brought in $14 million at the domestic box office this weekend, according to industry source Box Office Mojo.
The original sci-fi film’s marketing was hindered by the SAG-AFTRA strike which prohibited the film’s cast from promoting the film, including doing interviews. This contributed to the lower weekend box office.
“The Creator,” however, did better internationally, bringing in $18.3M from 48 markets. The film also placed at #1 in France, Spain, the UK, Netherlands, Hong Kong, and Thailand.
It’s possible the film could hold steady during its upcoming second weekend in North America due to positive word-of-mouth. The only new release competition for the weekend of October 6 is the horror sequel “The Exorcist: Believer.”
Also on the Chart
One other Disney film appears on the Domestic Top 10, and that is 20th Century’s “A Haunting in Venice.”
The Agatha Christie-mystery is hanging in at #6, after a 3 spot drop due to the three new releases that came out this week. It brought in $3.8 million this weekend for a three week total of $31,615,091.
It’s also worth noting that this summer’s “Haunted Mansion” rounds out the Top 20 Domestic box office with $200,000 this weekend. It debuts on Disney+ on Wednesday, October 4.
