Disney Treasure, sister ship to the Disney Wish, is currently being built, and Disney Cruise Line has released new photos showing the ship’s progress.
Building the Ship
The Disney Treasure’s story began with the start of construction in January of 2023 and, so far, we’ve seen the arrival of the ship’s funnel and bow thrusters, and the keel laying ceremony.
Since then, the bow of the Disney Treasure was mounted to the forward section of the ship, using a crane in May 2023.
The bow block was held in position with the help of a high-precision laser scanner until it was fully welded to the foreship. It’s really starting to look like a ship, now.
Towards the end of May 2023, Disney Imagineers and crew at Meyer Werft shipyard began welding what will someday become The Walt Disney Theatre to the Disney Treasure.
This room will allow the ship to continue the Disney Cruise Line tradition of bringing Broadway-style stage shows across the globe in a grand entertainment venue fit for original Disney musicals.
Finally, the newest update shows the installment of the bridge block, which contains important navigational equipment for the ship, including the wheel.
It is here that the future captain and crew will be able to control the ship’s direction and speed from an onboard command center that looks out towards the horizon with floor to ceiling windows.
The Future
There’s still lots of work to be done while the ship is still docked at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany, but it is making great progress.
The Disney Treasure is the second in a trio of new ships that includes the Disney Wish, that emphasizes fuel efficiency and energy conservation features.
It was announced at last year’s D23 Expo that the ship is set to debut in the Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2024, to be followed by the third of the trio, along with a recently acquired ship, in 2025.
