About the Skrulls

Legendary creators Stan Lee and Jack Kirby introduced the world to the Skrulls way back in the pages of “FANTASTIC FOUR” #2, which was published in January 1962.

The Skrulls are an ancient people who share common traits with both reptiles and mammals. Millions of years ago, when the Skrulls were still evolving, a race of genetic manipulators called the Celestials landed on their planet, Skrullos. They experimented on the Skrulls, and gifted them with the ability to mutate rapidly, or shape-change.

Skrulls were first introduced into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) in the 1990s-set “Captain Marvel,” when Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and the Skrull Talos (Ben Mendelsohn), fought side by side.

We most recently saw Skrulls at the ends of “Spider-Man: Far from Home,” and the “WandaVision” series on Disney+.

About the Series

Marvel Studios’ new series, “Secret Invasion,” is being described as an espionage thriller that takes place in the present day MCU.

In it, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls led by Gravik (Kingsley Ben-Adir), who are quietly installing double agents into positions of power around the world.

Fury joins his friends and allies, including Everett Ross (Martin Freeman), Maria Hill (Cobie Sumlders), James “Rhodey” Rhodes (Don Cheadle), and Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth, in a race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion, and save humanity.

“Secret Invasion” also stars MCU newcomers Emilia Clarke as Talos’ daughter G’iah, and Olivia Colman as MI6 agent Sonya Falsworth, who has history with Fury, along with Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald, and Katie Finneran.

The series draws its inspiration from a 2008 Marvel Comics storyline of the same name written by Brian Michael Bendis, which crossed over into other superhero storylines.

Disney+ series’ executive producer Jonathan Schwartz says the show also takes its cues from the Cold War espionage thrillers of John le Carré, as well as from some contemporary TV shows like “Homeland” and “The Americans.”

Are You a Skrull?

On Twitter, Marvel set up a Tweet that would analize if you are a secret Skrull or not. Unfortunately, I am apparently a Skrull.

If you try it, let us know what you got.

Will you be watching “Secret Invasion” when it debuts on Wednesday, June 21? I’m definitely interested in the spy aspect of it.
