Some of comic’s best-loved characters were created by one man: Stan Lee, and a new Marvel-produced documentary, simply called “Stan Lee,” will debut on Friday, June 16, on Disney+
About the Documentary
When Marvel Comics visionary, Stan Lee, passed away in November 2018, he left behind a storied legacy and some of the most iconic characters of popular culture.
He also left behind a trove of personal footage and recorded recollections of his career that were never seen by the public.
Director David Gelb weaves this footage together to tell the story of Lee’s life.
Voice recordings are accompanied by archived interview clips, newsreels, and more that immerse fans into his incredible and creative mind.
Some of the writer’s closest colleagues, like Flo Steinberg, also provide their voices to this engaging documentary, which offers an intimate look at arguably the most influential comic creator of all time.
Considering the Marvel brand is one of the most prominent cornerstones of pop culture, everyone should hear from the man who made it all possible, and this documentary film does just that.
About Lee
Stan Lee is the creator/co-creator of such legendary characters as Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Iron Man, Black Panther, The Incredible Hulk, X-Men, Thor, Silver Surfer, Ant-Man, Nick Fury, The Avengers, and hundreds more.
Born Stanley Martin Lieber in New York City on December 28, 1922, he grew up during the Great Depression, eventually getting a job as an office assistant at a comic publisher in 1939 to help out his family. Then known as Timely Comics, the company would evolve into what we know today as Marvel.
75 years later, Lee is celebrated as the creative tour de force behind Marvel’s Silver Age in the 1960s, where he also worked with talents such as Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr., and Bill Everett.
Lee was also anointed the title of Disney Legend in 2017.
Up until his passing in 2018, just about every MCU film featured a cameo by Lee to honor his creations. From appearing at the gala in 2008’s “Iron Man,” to his last appearance in 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame,” Marvel fans always had fun trying to spot Lee’s cameos.
