Marvel Studios’ has announced the next Captain America movie will have a new title, and we also have a new first look photo from the set.
The Title
First announced in August 2021, the fourth film for the character went by a generic “Captain America 4” until San Diego Comic-Con in July 2022, when it was given the name “Captain America: New World Order.”
But now Marvel has revealed a change from that ominous-sounding title.
The film will now be called a more optimistic “Captain America: Brave New World.”
On Set
Actor Anthony Mackie, who once again plays the dual role of Sam Wilson and his alter-ego Captain America, also posted a first look photo from the set of the film to his Instagram that confirms the new title.
In it, he and actor Harrison Ford, who is stepping into the role of General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross following the death of original General Ross actor William Hurt, appear deep in conversation.
The caption reads:
“When Harrison Ford tells you how kicking ass should look, you listen! LoL… Thanks for the on set wisdom and laughs my friend! Can’t wait to do it again… Marvel Studios’ Captain America: Brave New World in theaters May 3, 2024”
The Film
Not much is known about the film other than the director and some of main cast at this point.
We do know the film will be directed by Julius Onah, who is best known for helming 2018 thriller “The Cloverfield Paradox,” from a script by Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson (both writers from Marvel/Disney+ series “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier“).
In addition to Mackie and Ford, previously announced cast members include Carl Lumbly returning as Isaiah Bradley, and Danny Ramirez returning as Joaquin Torres, both of whom were first introduced in “The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.”
Tim Blake Nelson has also joined the cast as Dr. Samuel Sterns, reprising his role from 2008’s “The Incredible Hulk.”
“Captain America: Brave New World” arrives in theaters May 3, 2024, so I’m sure we’ll start getting more information in the fall, possibly at Destination D23.
