Bad news for those planning to visit Disneyland Resort this summer, as it was announced late Friday (May 19) that “Fantasmic!” will remain closed longer following a devastating fire in April.

The Details

Disneyland has announced that “Fantasmic!” will remain closed through at least Labor Day, which is September 4, 2023.

In the statement, Disney said:

“Our goal is to always deliver the best possible show for our guests. With that in mind we’ve made the difficult decision to put “Fantasmic!” on hiatus through at least Labor Day.

Teams are actively exploring alternate entertainment offerings for guests this summer an we look forward to sharing more soon.”

Disney says guests who had a previously-booked “Fantasmic!” Dining Package will be notified of the hiatus.

Impacted performers and support Cast Members have been notified and teams are working to support their next steps, such as redeployment and cross training opportunities.

The Fire

It was during the final 10:30pm “Fantasmic!” show of the night on April 22, 2023, the Maleficent dragon erupted in flames, and the area was quickly evacuated.

No cause has been listed for the accident, but apparently the damage was more severe than originally thought and the park needs more time to repair the area.

“Fantasmic!” at Walt Disney World continues to run its normal schedule.

Temporary Replacement

While Disney hasn’t listed what they will do to entertain guests this summer at Disneyland, they could bring back something back temporarily like “Main Street Electrical Parade,” which was part of last summer’s evening entertainment at the park.

As soon as the temporary replacement is announced, we’ll let you know.
