Halle Bailey, who plays Ariel in the upcoming live-action “The Little Mermaid,” appeared on “American Idol” during it’s “Disney Night” to sing “Part of Your World” from the film.
The Performance
Though “American Idol” was live from Disneyland on Sunday night, Bailey’s performance was actually pre-recorded in the middle of the night, while the park was closed.
Bailey posted on her Twitter about the experience: “singing vocals in freezing cold weather at 3am while park is closed is no joke but we did it!”
With an introduction by “American Idol” contestants Colin Stough, Megan Danielle, Iam Tongi, Wé Ani, and Zacharia Smith, here is Halle Bailey doing a stunning rendition of “Part of Your World” in front of Sleeping Beauty’s castle:
Even Disney CEO Robert Iger was impressed by her performance, tweeting: “All I can say is “Oh my!” Halle Bailey is simply perfect as Ariel!”
The Film
“The Little Mermaid” live-action film is the beloved story of Ariel (Bailey), a beautiful and spirited young mermaid with a thirst for adventure.
The youngest daughter of King Triton (Javier Bardem), and the most defiant, Ariel longs to find out more about the world beyond the sea, and while visiting the surface, falls for the dashing Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King).
While mermaids are forbidden to interact with humans, Ariel must follow her heart. She makes a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), which gives her a chance to experience life on land, but ultimately places her life – and her father’s crown – in jeopardy.
“The Little Mermaid” debuts in theaters on May 26, 2023. Ariel will also be making appearances at Disneyland, Walt Disney World, and Disneyland Paris around the release of the film.
