While waiting to see how many of Disney’s 22 nominations would win awards during this year’s Oscars, Walt Disney Studios used the ceremony to drop the first full trailer for the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
The trailer was formerly introduced during the ceremony by the film’s stars Halle Bailey and Melissa McCarthy.
The Trailer
We’ve had two teaser trailers for The Little Mermaid so far, but this is the first full trailer shared with the world that shows more than brief glimpses of the characters.
The trailer starts with Princess Ariel (Halle Bailey) saving Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from the shipwreck, and includes many scenes of life below the waves, as well as on land.
We also get better looks at King Triton (Javier Bardem) and Ursula (Melissa McCarthy), along with Sebastian (Daveed Diggs) and Scuttle (Awkwafina).

Film Details
The Little Mermaid 2023 is a live-action remake of Disney’s hit animated 1989 film of the same name – which itself is based on a fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.
The film is directed by Rob Marshall (Mary Poppins Returns), and Disney Legend and original The Little Mermaid composer Alan Menken teams up with the award-winning Lin-Manuel Miranda (Hamilton, Encanto) to come up with four new songs for the beloved soundtrack.
In addition to the above mentioned cast, the film also stars Jessica Alexander, Noma Dumezweni, Jude Akuwudike, Lorena Andrea, Art Malik, and Kajsa Mohammar, and the voice of Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.
The Little Mermaid will be released in theaters May 26, 2023. We’ll let you know when tickets go on sale.
